There. Is. A. Reason. This. Place. Has. 5 STARS.
My husband and I wanted to go out somewhere new. This lovely place stood out because of the reviews. I mean, how often do you see a place on Yelp with 5 stars?
We were welcomed with open arms, told the specials and had some great banter at the cash register as to what to eat.
The pictures others have posted were enticing so I ordered the po'boy, my husband got the fish special.
The food was sent out fast and fresh, and we were checked up upon by the Mr and Mrs themselves! The collard greens are stupid good. The po'boy was delicious thickness and the bengiets make me cry knowing I can have quality desserts like that any day of the week.
This place has such a homey feel, it was such a fresh of breath air to find a place like this. It felt like you were going to a cookout at mom and dads.
We went there for a date night, and left excited to go back with our family.
Thank you Mackeys Munchies for such a wonderful treat! -

Really wanted to like this place.
The Good: The owner/management seems really sweet.
The Questionable: The cashier was a little young girl who seemed super polite to everyone else. When I got to the cashier, she was not a fan. She started acting obviously rude. Could barely give me my change without a disgusted look. Now to be objective, I suffer from
Permanent Witch face we will call it and she seemed polite to everyone before and after me. Maybe it was how I came off, but I surely meant no harm.
The Bad: The food, the food was just bad. The jambalaya was sweet and not spicy. The cat fish quality was questionable and was over breaded. If you never have Cajun food before, this is not the best representation and if you have had Cajun food....you probably will be mad if you think you are going to find some here. Me and my mother ended up eating nothing from here, truly disappointing.
The Unforgivable: I ordered my food 20 mins before I got there just to sit down for damn near 45 min for my food at the location. Everyone else was tired of waiting for their food as well. This is why the I have to give it a one star. If you are going to make me wait over an hour for a go to order at least give me something worth waiting for.
If it wasn't for the wait, I would give the food on its own...maybe 2 stars. Won't be returning. -

Wow, am I living I N'Awlins again, am I sitting on the West Bank in a tiny sammach cafe' or am I sippin' Barq's in the 9th ward...naw I'm in the best Cajun cuisine house in the Greater Jacksonville Area. And I didn't even leave Orange Park.
I have been here numerous times and I have never been disappointed with any plate, bowl, or sandwich I have had. And desserts, well...I have been known to drive out of my way just to get some beignets.
The shrimp or fish po-boys are made fresh to order with crispy but light batter that is well seasoned and a generous remoulade sauce. However, hands down my favorite is the muffuletta, but you have to be there on the right day!!! Be a regular and you'll know.
The sides are praise worthy of the highest of Mardi Gras beads. I really enjoy the greens, red beans and rice, pico slaw, and sweet potato fries. The gumbo is made with a mix of chicken and delicate sausage and you add your own extras to each bowl. Jambalaya like you find on the outskirts of Lake Ponchtartrain...............:absolutely great. -

Real deal flavorful Louisiana food! Perfectly seasoned fish and shrimp and excellent sides! I'm used to Zatarains red beans and rice from the box and I have been duped my entire life! Recommend all to come! The owners are very personable and friendly on top of great cooks! Definitely will be back!

Mrs. Mackey is a gem, who welcomes you into her restaurant but as if you were family. I received the same warm welcome as I saw each other person that entered. Mr. Mackey is the chef, and she handles front of the house. It's casual, comfortable and feels like entering their place. Order at the counter from the menu on the big black board, then grab a seat and they'll bring the food.
The kids meals were liked, but especially the very cheesy Mac and cheese. The jambalaya is delicious, and I liked the add on option of tomatoes and okra, with plenty of chicken and sausage. You can add extra spice if requested also.
The beneigts are a bit different than what I am used to, but are still pillows or fluffy deliciousness.
We'll be back!
